Had to review just over 30 songs to register one song, but thought "any publicity is good publicity"
However, due to the vast amount of Nu-Metal clones and Creed wannabes...
We are getting slagged into the dirt!!!
Only 4 reviews out of over 30 have been either complimentary or even well written.
I won't even comment on the abuse I've been getting in the mailbox!

Anyone who wants to support a struggling bunch of rockers, who (only speaking for myself) are just about ready to throw in the towel!!??

did you guys ever notice though just how easy it is to give the best advice to others and then struggle with taking it yourself? why do we do these things? hmmm...anyway I got the answer. I must add that the consideration of quitting wasn't entirely to do with reviews. More to do with the general situation right now.

Hi Andii!! If I remember right you have one of the very first mixes of the record, which sound a lot different to the final version haha. Will try and sort you out the new version soon!

Darren! Hi! Production does have it's shortcomings for sure! Vocals at the time were soaked in reverb, a phase I was going through at the time, and regret now.
For some reason, compression to mp3 does unholy things to the sound. The mp3 samples sound very flimsy compared to the CD.
The whole thing was recorded in Sonic Foundary, a program that I got into as an introduction to computer based recording.
Have since seen the light and got into ProTools and Cubase. Slowly soaking those two in, overwhelmed at the possibilites and the massive improvement in sound quality and possibilities of the plug-ins available.

More recent recordings have a vast improvement in sound quality. It's all been one great learning experience that's always enjoyable.
Any suggestions or advice are always welcome!

If you've got Pro Tools, I would waste
your time with Cubase - especially since
Logic 'talks' to Pro Tools a lot better.

I've never really found any problems
sonically, or frequence-wise, with mp3ing
.wav files, not unless the .wavs were
pretty shoddy in the first place. And,
of course, you do have qualitative choices
when it comes to mp3 conversion (in most
new software anyway).

Feel free to send me early mixes of pre-
released stuff, if you'd like an outsider's
ear. You can even burn the Logic or Pro
Tools files/sessions/.wavs to CDR, if you'd
like something remixed.

Thanks for the offer there Darren! I'll take you up on that. Especially the opportunity to hear a different interpretation in terms of mixes.
A friend of mine is remixing "The Great Song Of Defiance" into something very different! Full of break beats, stuttered vocals and lower than low bass lines. Will probably put that up on the site when he's done for fun.

I'm definately going to try and experiment with different mp3 encoders. An idea that until you mentioned it never occured to me.
A/B'ing the CD and the mp3 is quite a shock! The original WAV sounds a lot more "airy" and atmospheric compared to the claustrophobic mp3 with it's squashed cymbals and random effect on vocal volume.
It's called "Audio Central" and on very rare occaisions that it crashes the computer, it'll do so on unsaved projects you can bet your arse!
It's history!

I also have Logic and until now have purely used it as a soundbank for the MIDI controller.

All these strange things I've done when teaching myself through trial and error, how to record a song haha

I haven't heard anything since though, since my slow ass dial up connection more or less prevents me from doing that. I thought your vocal style was kinda unique, so I wouldn't change anything. Good luck with your new pro-tools. Hope ya get mint production on your stuff.

Gav, Donna said it best, ya gotta do what makes ya happy. And true the music biz has word of what's in or not....but SCREW the music biz...I think all the music on radio and on MTV that is supposely the "IN THING"...is pure crap.
Me being a musician, I write and do whatever I want...I could care less what critics or reviews think...cuz at the end, it was you're doing and that doing was somethign you were happy with. In otherwords, you're not a Follwer or jump on the band wagon cuz it's the next big thing.
With me, I write everything, from Punk, Metal, Industrial, Glam...etc, and I I ever wrote a POLKA...hahaha...you bet cuz I did it, I'd be happy about it, but for some reason I can't see myself write a Polka...LOL!!!
